Turkmenistan traditionally grows cotton which is the basis for the development of the textile industry, the annual turnover of which is nearly $400 million.
The president Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov expressed thankfulness to resolution of key infrastructure, investment, and innovational tasks due to which the country's textile industry has all opportunities to ensure its competitive privileges in export.

As of 2013, the country's textile industry is represented by 74 enterprises - 32 textile complexes, cotton spinning and weaving factories, 17 garment factories, seven enterprises of silk industry, two enterprises for processing wool, and others.
During the years of independence, tens of textile enterprises were constructed in Turkmenistan at a total cost of $1.6 billion, which increased the volume of processed cotton fiber to 51 percent.
The operating facilities in Turkmenistan produce up to 177,000 tons of yarn, 186 million square meters of various cotton fabrics, 11,000 tons of various kinds of knitted fabrics, 7,200 tons of terry fabrics, and 80 million pieces of knitwear and garments per year.
The major part of the product is exported to the U.S., Canada, Germany, Britain, Russia, Italy, Turkey, China, and Ukraine. The companies such as Puma, Bershka, Nautika, Sara Lee, Casual Wear, Wal-Mart, Miss Erica, Vespolino, JC Penney and others are among the customers of finished goods.
