Cotton is a major source of the country’s export, and it is the raw material for dozens of modern enterprises of the dynamically developing Turkmenistan’s textile industry. Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhammadov at the governmental meeting expressed dissatisfaction with the pace of the agricultural work, primarily cotton harvesting.
He demanded the necessary organizational arrangements be made in order to ensure that the regions fulfill their commitments on delivering raw cotton.
Berdimuhammadov said that it is necessary that cotton would be harvested in full and in optimal time. Last year, cotton growers exceeded their contractual obligations by delivering about 1.2 million metric tons of raw cotton to the state.
This year, country started to harvest in early September, it is planned to procure 1.5 million metric tons of raw cotton. The total area of land allocated for cotton is 545,000 hectares.
