Turkey’s apparel exports shows an increase of 8.3% reaching USD 17.3 bln during 2013 compared to last year, according to Istanbul Textile and Apparel Exporters Association (ITKIB) data. Germany remained the main destination for Turkish apparel exports.
During 2013, Turkey exported garments worth USD 3.71 billion last year to Germany, accounting for 21% of the overall apparel exports from Turkey. The UK maintained second position with Turkey exporting apparel worth USD 2.16 billion to the UK in 2013, followed by Spain with USD 1.49 billion, France with USD 1.12 billion, the Netherlands with USD 910 million and Italy with USD 712.51 million.
According to the figures, Turkey exported clothing worth USD 17.3 billion to 203 countries during last year, whereas during 2012, the country exported apparel amounting to USD 16.3 billion. The highest amount of exports were made from the women's outerwear sector, with Turkey exporting women's outerwear worth USD 8.93 billion during 2013, accounting for 51% of the total apparel exports from the country during the period.
During 2013, the country exported men's outerwear worth USD 3.54 billion, clothing accessories totaling USD 1.39 billion, home textiles made from cotton amounting to USD 1.30 billion and USD 491.49 million worth of other readymade articles.
