Indorama Group owned Trevira, a German synthetic textile fibre supplier has launched its first new ‘Sinfineco’ range of branded recycled polyester fibres and yarns that meet both to the Global Recycled Standard and the GCS-NL – recycled claim standard as it looks to capitalise on the increasing demand for more sustainable synthetics.
The filament yarns are made in its German spinning mills from both pre- and post-consumer recycled polymers with the recycled granulate from PET bottles supplied by its Indian-based parent company. The filament yarns are available in titres 167 and 76 dtex normal polyester.
Calling the move a ‘logical step’, Trevira CEO Klaus Holz said that they at Trevira wish to preserve the environment and at the same time work to create value. These are the criteria of our sustainability concept.
On the one hand, Trevira will user pre-consumer recycled polyester from residual waste at its Bobingen and Guben factories in Germany. In fibre production … a small proportion of tow cannot be used for converting. Instead of selling this material as waste, it is cut up, pressed into balls and then carded /combed by a partner, resulting in a 1A quality product. The GRS certification (Global Recycled Standard) is requested for this., said the company.
As with converter tow from new material, the recycled tow is mostly incorporated into polyester wool blends (55 per cent PET / 45 per cent wool), which are used primarily in corporate wear and uniforms.
The company also uses filament yarns derived 100 percent from post-consumer recycled PET bottles. Trevira offers filament yarns consisting of 100 percent recycled PET bottles.
Their parent company Indorama manufactures very high quality recycled chips from PET bottles. Since only transparent PET bottles are used in Thailand, the flakes and chips are of a particularly good and very uniform quality.
