Federation of Indian Export Organization (FIEO) has proposed constituting new textile policy and textile promotion board to the Tamil Nadu government to accelerate growth of the textile industry comprising of over 90 percent Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), informed K Unnikrishnan, Joint Deputy Director General of Federation of Indian Export Organization (FIEO).
The association has also proposed setting up of a technical textile cluster to facilitate value addition into the sector. Although the textile sector is doing fine as there is a huge potential that needs to be explored
The new textile policy must provide assistance to the textile MSMEs to be able to go for an environment friendly approach. Citing the issues that surround the MSMEs in the region, He informed that there is a problem with the clearance mechanism in the state. It takes a lot of time to get the necessary clearance for starting the unit.
The prime reason for the delay is lack of coordination between different departments; the government must introduce new textile policy to address these gaps.
Stressing upon the need of marketing mechanism, Unnikrishnan urged the state government to establish a marketing support system for the textile MSMEs so that the products made by the sector can be exported to different states and also across the globe.
The State government has given assurance of initiating the process to formulate the new textile policy likely to be announced by next month which not only benefit but will be environment friendly for the textile MSMEs.
