The Lycra Company, Diamond Denim unveil eco-friendly denim collection

YarnsandFibers News Bureau 2025-04-08 15:31:02 – USA

The Lycra Company has teamed up with Diamond Denim, a fully integrated textile mill under the Sapphire Group based in Lahore, Pakistan, to present a new sustainable denim collection. The collection will be showcased at Kingpins Amsterdam, scheduled for April 16–17.

Titled “7 Styles for 7 Days,” the capsule collection features garments made with bio-based Lycra EcoMade fiber. It highlights how eco-conscious stretch denim can enhance everyday wardrobes while minimizing environmental harm. Later this year, the bio-based Lycra EcoMade fiber—developed with Qore’s Qira BDO technology—is set to launch commercially.

BDO, or 1,4-Butanediol, is the main ingredient used to make Lycra. Qore is a collaboration between Cargill’s bioindustrial division and German company Helm. Qira is derived from 70% renewable dent corn grown in Iowa and can potentially cut Lycra’s carbon footprint by up to 44%, all while maintaining the original fabric’s quality and strength.

Ebru Ozaydin, Global Product Category Director at The Lycra Company, shared, “Diamond Denim’s fully integrated facilities made them the perfect partner for this collection that looks toward the future of sustainable denim.” She explained that Diamond Denim was among the first mills worldwide to receive the renewable fiber, using it to create four high-performance fabrics that form the base of this adaptable wardrobe collection.

Jayesh Mandalia, Head of Design at Diamond Denim, said, “We are focused on using sustainable methods in textile production. Working with The Lycra Company on this collection marks an important step in our aim to create eco-friendly, high-quality denim while moving closer to our carbon reduction goals.”
