The Perambalur district administration is in the process of handing over 40.35 hectares of land for Textile Park coming up on Tiruchi-Chennai National Highway at Padalur to the State Industries Promotion Corporation of Tamil Nadu (SIPCOT) – the implementing agency of the project.

Perambalur district, a major cotton growing district stands to benefit from the textile park.

The agency has written to the State government for getting administrative sanction for the project. After getting the sanction, SIPCOT would provide infrastructure facilities to the entrepreneurs.

Uninterrupted power supply would also be provided. The road would be widened for 20 metres for a distance of 1.4 km. Tamil Nadu Water Supply and Drainage Board (TWAD Board) would supply 2.5 million litres of water per day.

Government has accorded permission to the Directorate of Handlooms and Textiles for drafting the project.

Darez Ahamed, District Collector, said that the upcoming park would be an export oriented facility and is expected to be operational in the next six months.

Cotton cultivation at Perambalur district has been taken up on around 40,000 hectares in the district this year. More and more farmers evince interest in taking up cotton cultivation as cotton fetched good price for them and also the scheme announced by the State government for taking Rs.1.25 lakh of income per hectare made farmers take up cotton cultivation.

Fifteen entrepreneurs from various places such as Tirupur, Coimbatore, and Chennai have evinced interest in setting up units in the coming textile park.
