The textile industry has been facing issues in getting subsidy under the Technology Upgradation Fund Scheme (TUFS). Some member-units had applied for subsidy under the scheme which is pending for the past one and a half years.
The Textile Upgradation Fund Scheme (TUFS) is an interest subsidy scheme aimed at upgrade of technology as part of measures to boost the textile and jute sectors.
Vinod Thapar, chairman of the Ludhiana Knitwear Club, met Kiran Soni Gupta (IAS), the Commissioner of Textiles, at her office in Mumbai to put forward the issue of non-allocation of subsidy to meet pending cases under TUFS and other problems faced by the industry.
The applications of the member-units for the subsidy were not punched into the system for UID creation on time and were lying pending at the office of the textile commissioner for more than one and a half years.
Also, for some of the member units who were allotted UID numbers on their application were further delayed due to pending verification visit – which is a pre-requisite for disbursement of the subsidy amount.
