Bureau Veritas Consumer Products Services (Bureau Veritas), a global leader in testing, inspection/audit, advisory, and certification services, has agreed to provide conformity assessment services to TerraCycle to verify the company's recycling operations and to the Recycled Claim Standard as published by the Textile Exchange.
Chuck Rogers, Americas Director, Technical Consulting and Supply Chain Solutions, Bureau Veritas, said that he is thrilled to announce that Bureau Veritas has certified TerraCycle for the Recycled Claim Standard (version 2.0) for two of their waste streams in their US operations. TerraCycle's verified compliance with the Recycled Claim Standard demonstrates TerraCycle’s competence and commitment within the recycling industry.
The Recycled Claim Standard (RCS) is a collection of rules for third-party certification of recycled input and chain of custody based on material mass balance measurements. Bureau Veritas assessed TerraCycle's current supply chain, recycling process, operating techniques, and associated sub-contractors for RCS compliance for Mixed Flexible Packaging and Mixed Rigid Packaging in order to gain this certification.
Tom Szaky, Founder and CEO of TerraCycle, said that TerraCycle began working with Bureau Veritas in 2020 to develop, perform, and complete independent audits of their US supply chain. They’ve already acquired certification in the United States for two key material categories, and they’re striving to replicate this procedure for additional waste streams throughout the world by the year 2022. This accreditation from a global leader in their area gives our partners even more certainty that the material they provide us is never turned into energy or buried in landfills.
Because of Bureau Veritas' top position in the retail/consumer products business, with test laboratories and auditors all over the world, the partnership enables for global size and reach.
