Tengri develops first camel fibre

Fabrication of imperial yarns and fibres from the endemic Khangai yak of this distant north-west area of Mongolia, has strengthened work with its co-operatives of over 4,500 herder households to present a rare new yarn to the luxury marketplace. Introducing the valuable fibres of this Khangai camel, the London-based collaborative will, the company says, farther empower ethical business streams for nomadic herder communities and encourage critical property and ecosystem preservation.

“The international fashion and textile businesses will see the entry of a new fiber, offering ethical systemic production provenance and superior qualities,” Tengri said in a statement. “The Khangai camel, which roams semi-wild together with all the nomadic herders of the Khangai, conveys similar properties into the early Khangai yak, growing hair with distinctive textures and colorings found only in species native to the distant area. Indigenous into the Khangai, these camels empower biodiversity and wildlife to thrive, helping to deal with the issue of land degradation resulting from the over-intensive rearing of non-indigenous animals.”

Grazing on mineral-rich grasslands, in an ecosystem with micro-fluctuations in temperatures, is said to cause the camels to produce coats milder than those of any other camel species in Mongolia, with properties found in many of the world’s most luxurious natural fibres. This causes yarns that are exquisitely soft, warmer than merino wool, water resistant, breathable and sterile, Tengri adds.

“Fibres are hand combed in the underbelly of this indigenous baby Khangai camel only once annually by nomadic herders, when the camels shed their first winter jackets. From combing to conclusion, the evolution process combines creative artistryscience, the purest raw fibres and best yarn construction,” Tengri adds.

Back in the United Kingdom, the fibres are spun in a legacy mill in Yorkshire, The fibres are processed in the soft water of the Yorkshire Pennines, a natural ingredient and one of a kind facet of this Huddersfield textile weaving industry, aiding the creation of beautiful pieces.
