The textile park to be set up in Waranagal district, Telangana will be the biggest in the state as the proposal is being revised. The revised park will be in more than 1,000 to 1,200 acre from the 100 acres initially planned.
Warangal is one of the key producers of cotton in Telangana district. There are smaller units operating now. However, many traders take the cotton stocks to Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra and other states for value addition. The district also sees large number of people going out in the search of livelihood.
According to the preliminary estimated indicate that about 60,000 people migrate to Surat and other places. The idea is to stop such migration by providing gainful employment opportunities. The proposed textile park will have a large number of looms, the official said.
Jayesh Ranjan, managing director of the Telangana State Industrial Infrastructure Corporation, which is the nodal agency for allotting land to the industries and creating the basic physical infrastructure said the government initially wanted to set up the textile park in about 100 acres but now its scope is revised to make it bigger, may be ten fold or more.
A master plan for the same would be taken up shortly. The park would have multiple components for value addition. The government has agreed to rationalize the tax structure in Telangana for a level playing field with other states in the textile segment.
The government is working to create a land bank of five lakh acre to be given to the industries. So far, it has aggregated 2.35 lakh acres across the state and the process is on to collect the remaining land in phases.
Telangana has agreed to set up another textile park at Sircilla in Karimnagar. Both the Warangal and the proposed one at at Sircilla will be modeled on the ones in Tirupur in Tamil Nadu.
