Teijin Frontier introduces Octair insulation fiber

Teijin Frontier has announced Octair, an advanced polyester insulation fiber designed for bedding and apparel. This innovative fiber boasts a hollow, eight-fin cross-section with radiating protrusions, making it an ideal alternative to traditional down. As down production declines and prices rise, Octair addresses the growing demand for high-performance insulation alternatives.

Solotex Octair, a new commercially available insulation material, combines Octair fibers with polytrimethylene terephthalate (PTT) fibers to deliver excellent warmth, loft, and lightness. The unique structure of Octair fibers creates air pockets within the material, providing thermal efficiency and comparable insulation to down based on testing with 30cm mini quilt samples. This structure offers a balance of lightweight comfort and effective heat retention, meeting consumers’ expectations for high-quality insulation.

The inclusion of PTT fibers in Solotex Octair enhances softness, elasticity, and shape retention, while Octair’s smooth fiber tips minimize tangling. This feature streamlines the blowing process when filling comforters, duvets, and apparel, making Solotex Octair a versatile, efficient solution for bedding and clothing manufacturers seeking an alternative to conventional polyester insulation.
