Tokyo-based Teijin Frontier has introduced a next-generation fabric with dual-layer knitted technology that offers contact cooling and prevents sweat-induced stickiness. The innovation is designed to enhance comfort and functionality, especially for activewear.
The inner layer of the fabric alternates between two types of Waveron polyester filament yarns: a conventional hydrophilic yarn that absorbs sweat and a new hydrophobic yarn that prevents it from sticking to the skin. The outer layer disperses the absorbed moisture, keeping the fabric dry and comfortable.
Achieving a balance between contact cooling and sweat stickiness prevention has been a challenge due to conflicting design requirements. Contact cooling relies on maximizing the material’s contact with the skin for better heat conduction, while preventing sweat stickiness requires reduced contact.
Waveron yarn addresses this challenge with its flat, cross-sectional design and titanium oxide content, which enhances the cooling effect by transferring heat from the skin to the fiber. The non-crimped yarn also increases air gaps between fibers for better breathability.
The fabric is made from 100% recycled polyester and incorporates PFAS-free water-repellent technology, aligning with Teijin Frontier’s commitment to sustainability and eco-friendly innovation.
