Teijin Frontier Co., Ltd., the Teijin Group’s fibers and products converting firm, announced that it has joined Fashion For Good (FFG), a global platform aimed at boosting sustainable innovation in the garment industry, as East Asia’s first enterprise.
The FFG was founded in 2017 to address important concerns such as pollution caused by the manufacturing and transportation of clothing and its raw materials, the disposal of old goods, the establishment of a recycling system, and the need to develop technologies and mechanisms to address these challenges. FFG members include garment and retail businesses, primarily in Europe, as well as start-ups and research institutes working in industries such as raw materials, textiles, processing, sewing, and logistics.
Teijin Frontier will now evaluate the quality of chemically recycled polyester pellets made from textile waste produced by chosen FFG innovators, as well as manufacture and test sustainable filament yarns. Teijin Frontier wants to build more efficient fiber-to-fiber recycling methods as well as contribute to solving other major concerns in the garment sector that FFG describes, using its well-established technology and expertise.
Teijin Frontier is working to increase its environmental value, guided by its THINK ECO® environmental strategy, which includes producing ecologically friendly materials and products for a variety of applications ranging from garments to industrial materials. Teijin Frontier is also aiming to improve societal mechanisms for more effective resource conservation, such as waste reduction and recycling, in order to contribute to more responsible consumption and production in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Teijin Frontier will continue to actively pursue these and other initiatives to help protect the global environment.
