Taylor Stitch, a men’s clothing company located in San Francisco, has teamed up with Atelier and Repairs to reimagine its surplus inventory.
The brand will upcycle surplus stock on two of its essential designs, the Jack oxford shirt in white and blue and cotton chinos in khaki, navy, and olive, as part of the ‘Reenvisioned Essentials’ partnership.
Each item will be decorated with archival fabrics and softened with a softening wash in collaboration with Atelier and Repairs to achieve the appearance and feel of treasured, one-of-a-kind vintage finds. Taylor Stitch, which is striving to decrease its environmental effect, says the goal is to prevent shipping surplus inventory to trash.
Taylor Stitch states on its website other companies wouldn’t hesitate to dispose of surplus inventory to make place for next season – sending it to the incinerator or, worse still, the landfill – but that’s not their style. Rather than put it up to bad luck and go on, they realized they had to do the right thing with these pieces, so they contacted their friend Maurizio Donadi.
Atelier & Repairs in Los Angeles has given new life to Taylor Stitch’s items by adding tonal fabric patches to the chinos and accenting the shirts with subtle bursts of color and pattern on the chest pocket and hemline using a variety of damaged, deadstock, or discarded clothes and materials.
Maurizio Donadi, the founder of Atelier and Repairs, said that the beauty of their collaboration with Taylor Stitch was not only about re-thinking fundamental designs in one man’s wardrobe but also about their dedication to minimizing inventory surplus in the most relevant way possible. By reengineering their original design proposition rather than discarding it.”
The Taylor Stitch x Atelier and Repairs Jack shirt cost 195 dollars, and the Chinos cost 220 dollars.
