Leather chemical company, Syn-Bios-SpA, has received ZDHC Level 3 accreditation for their leather chemicals, which is the highest level of certification available through the ZDHC Road Map to Zero program.

Eurofins Chem-MAP awarded Syn-Bios-SpA the certification. Conformance to the ZDHC Manufacturing Restricted Substances List (MRSL) for formulations and raw materials, as well as a chemical management audit, are required for ZDHC Level 3.

Chem-MAP verifies chemical and stewardship processes, confirming that the applicant's formulations meet the ZDHC MRSL's limits and demonstrating the applicant's commitment to improving upstream chemical management and, eventually, reducing its chemical footprint.

Georgina Mawer, head of Chem-MAP Consulting, said that companies that participate in the Chem-MAP program are demonstrating their commitment to sustainable chemistry. Syn-Bios-achievement SpA's of ZDHC MRSL Level 3 is a significant step forward for chemical transparency and sustainability in the leather supply chain.

Dr. Giulia Fontana, technical director of Syn-Bios-SpA, said that the concrete and constant commitment of Syn-Bios-SpA in formulating products that have no impact on the environment and human health has now obtained official recognition with the ZDHC Level 3 certification – tangible proof that the company offers its customers the opportunity to create leather items that comply with stringent specifications without releasing dangerous substances into the environment. An ambitious aim that Syn-Bios brand goods can now help attain, and a big step toward encouraging sustainability in the tanning business.
