Swedish textile manufacturer introduces sustainable wool yarn

YarnsandFibers News Bureau 2024-03-27 09:21:43 – Sweden

Textile manufacturer Klippan Yllefabrik has developed a new soft worsted yarn, offering apparel brands a high-quality, bio-based, and recyclable material. The manufacturing process removes excess straw residue from the wool fibers, previously discarded due to Sweden's top-tier animal welfare practices. This initiative aligns with the increasing demand among Swedish fashion and textile brands for regionally-produced, bio-based, and recyclable materials like wool.

Klippan Yllefabrik's new worsted yarn is made from Swedish wool that previously contained high levels of vegetable matter. By introducing an additional combing step, the plant residue is removed, resulting in a soft and pliable yarn suitable for sustainable fashion.

Gösta Magnusson, chairman of Klippan Yllefabrik, emphasizes the importance of utilizing Swedish wool efficiently to avoid resource wastage. This innovation allows for the creation of fine yarn from Swedish wool, ideal for crafting sustainable fashion items.

Johan Sidenmark, project manager of the Swedish Wool Initiative, highlights the collaborative effort across the value chain, from sheep farms to industry, in promoting sustainable products. This initiative aims to align Swedish wool processing with industrial needs, fostering sustainability in various sectors, particularly fashion.
