Sustainable solutions for polyester-based elastic tricot fabric

Karl Mayer’s new fabric promises a sustainable alternative for the clothing sector. As per research by the fashion label Labcrush, it is being reported that the textile industry is causing a lot of environmental damage and is responsible for huge waste piles in Europe. Italy is the one leading in the race with 466,000 tonnes per year. It also reveals that a huge portion of the textile waste goes for incineration.

Karl emphasizes the point that ‘low recycling rate’  could be an outcome of purity of the material, as there are many textiles which are made of which are complexly made from fibers and yarns mixture that cannot be separated with the conventional methods.

Karl’s new fabric claims to provide discreet comfort stretch and is ecologically reasonable as it is made of different polyester polymers; a semi version of a soft look and it has a thoughtful structure with moderate elasticity. Different polymers linked in the fiber structure show different shrinkage behaviors upon heating.

The two polyester yarns were processed into a dense fabric on a high-performance HKS 3-M tricot machine in gauge E 32. The fabric weighs 202 g/m2.  It offers a heavy drape and is rich in feel. The German company concludes that it is a very reasonable fabric that does not require ironing,  is easy to wash, comfortable to wear and can easily be recycled.
