Sun Chemical has successfully achieved ZDHC Level 3 accreditation, the highest level conferred by the ZDHC Foundation, through the completion of ECO PASSPORT by OEKO-TEX® certification for a selected pigment range. This makes Sun Chemical the first pigment manufacturer globally to secure this accreditation, reflecting its commitment to eliminating hazardous chemicals in the textile/apparel value chains.
The ECO PASSPORT certification assesses textile and leather chemicals for harmful substances and evaluates the ecological integrity of the chemical manufacturer. The comprehensive process includes CAS number screening, analytical laboratory tests, self-assessment, and an on-site visit.
Dr. Christof Kujat, Global Head Industry Segment Plastics, Color Materials at Sun Chemical, highlighted the significance of achieving ECO PASSPORT by OEKO-TEX® with ZDHC Level 3 conformance, emphasizing that Sun Chemical's chemical formulation consistently complies with the latest ZDHC standards for safer products. This certification, initiated in 2020, underscores Sun Chemical's commitment to environmental progress, with plans for additional certifications in the future.
The ECO PASSPORT by OEKO-TEX® certification marks a noteworthy stride for Sun Chemical in advancing sustainability within the pigments for plastics industry. This achievement benefits the entire value chain, aligning with the EU Strategy for Sustainable and Circular Textiles by making substantial progress toward meeting the 2025 target for separate collection of textile waste.
