The Sächsisches Textilforschungsinstitut e.V. (STFI) is exploring two innovative textile applications: using PU compounds as protective layers for sensors monitoring mechanical stress, and 3D printing on pre-stressed textiles to create 3D structures.
The ongoing "Texsafe" project focuses on creating textile sandwich structures for monitoring mechanical loads. These materials must record changes in permittivity during elastic deformation, endure loads of up to 1000 kg, and protect the textile from mechanical damage. Polyurethane-based potting compounds from WEVO-CHEMIE GmbH, particularly the Wevopur series, have shown exceptional suitability due to their viscoplastic properties and high elongation at break.
STFI has also been advancing 3D printing on textiles, testing new materials for various 3D application processes. As part of the "Machine and Process Development for 3D Printing on Pre-Stretched Textiles" project, Wevopur products were tested for selective reinforcement of pre-stretched textiles. head.
This approach, known as "4D printing," allowed textiles to deform in defined ways after pressure release, enabling the creation of unique products like textile lampshades and acoustic panels. The customizable viscosity and strong adhesion of Wevo products ensured durable bonding with textiles.
