Stella McCartney partners with Lenovo on sustainable fashion design course

Stella McCartney is partnering with Lenovo to challenge Central Saint Martins MA Design students to investigate the link between fashion and technology.

The course will assign 38 students the goal of investigating the link between fashion and technology and developing “a sustainable solution that pushes the boundaries of where they cross.”

Through the design competition, McCartney and Lenovo seek to inspire and empower the next generation of designers in the field of sustainable fashion design. The British designer and Central Saint Martins alumna will select one winner to get a three-month internship at her firm in a department of their choice.

Lenovo will also supply Yoga convertible PCs to each participating student.

Stella McCartney said that creativity and technology have always gone hand in hand at my fashion brand. That is why she is so delighted to collaborate with Lenovo on this great project — joining together now to inspire the creative visionaries of the future at Central Saint Martins. Stella McCartney, as a forward-thinking premium business, has always looked to the future, and she knows Lenovo is as concerned about environmental protection as she is. They’re thrilled to be able to assist the next generation of talent in creating something completely new in sustainable design, and she can’t wait to see the outcomes!

Simon Fraser, MA Design Course Director at Central Saint Martins, said that the notion that the sustainability and ethicality of production is an urgent issue in each of their disciplines, ceramics, furniture, and jewelry, is central to the work they perform as a course. They’re thrilled to be able to put their MA Design ideas and methods to the test with Stella McCartney and the forward-thinking team at Lenovo. This challenge has been accepted by both students and faculty.

Brian Leonard, Vice President of Design Innovation, Lenovo, said that through this cooperation, they are setting the scene for the future generation of individuals looking to change the world, and they’re extremely enthusiastic to see what is generated.
