Copenhagen-based Stamm, founded by Elisabet Stamm, has won the AW23 Zalando Sustainability Award, which was given out during Copenhagen Fashion Week.
To win the 20,000 euro cash prize and the opportunity to design a special line for e-tailer Zalando, Stamm defeated stiff competition from Swedish-based Selam Fessahaye and the Ukrainian clothing company TG Botanical.
According to a statement from Zalando, Stamm won over the judges with his autumn/winter 2023 collection because it showed “amazing workmanship as well as thorough understanding and execution of more ecological approaches.”
The panel also mentioned Stamm’s use of “more sustainable materials,” which included Indian Khadi, a traditional fabric created from organic handspun cotton, and recovered down in their puffer coats.
Elisabet Stamm, the founder and creative director of Stamm, said that being chosen as the winner of the Zalando Sustainability Award is both magical and inspiring. It is a celebration of a new brand with a conscious attitude that is motivated by innovation, variety, and artistic expression. They are grateful for the chance to work on such a significant and worthwhile platform and for the chance to meet business titans. They’ll be able to grow their network and continue their efforts to bring about change if we receive this award. He also wish to be able to encourage people to produce work with a purpose and support international trade.
Lena Sophie Röper, director of designer and luxury at Zalando, said that they are happy to be able to announce Stamm as the sixth winner of the Zalando Sustainability Award during Copenhagen Fashion Week AW23. A highlight was the intricate stitching and craftsmanship on the leather clothing as well as the down coats’ intricate design. They’re excited to collaborate with Stamm to develop a capsule collection that looks at unconventional design approaches and fresh concepts.
Along with providing Stamm with a cash award, Zalando will support Stamm by making its autumn/winter 2023 collection, which debuted during Copenhagen Fashion Week, accessible to clients throughout its European markets. Along with that, the two will collaborate on a limited-edition capsule collection with the Copenhagen-based brand that will “further leverage more sustainable design solutions” in terms of materials, production methods, technical advancements, and traceability.
Jury member Cecilie Thorsmark, chief executive of Copenhagen Fashion Week, added that with Stamm being named the winner of this edition, it is a celebration of the brand’s unwavering commitment to explore cutting-edge material combinations and game-changing shapes. Stamm’s works are inspirational not just because of their remarkable designs but also because they represent the brand’s dedication to preserving and promoting the usage of handcrafted materials.
Runner-up The jury also commended TG Botanical for its fine craftsmanship, use of organic raw materials, and domestic production, as well as Selam Fessahaye for her wide variety of materials, styles, and technical proficiency.
