Sri Lankan business delegation in Pakistan to attend Texpo 2016

Sri Lankan Minister for Commerce and Industry Rishad Bathiudeen with his 15 member business delegation arrived in Pakistan to attend the textile sector-specific exhibition TeXpo Pakistan 2016.

The Sri Lankan delegation, comprising top textile and business groups, leading textile chain stores, wholesale dealers, importers of fabric as well as representatives of chambers of commerce and industry, will be attending the textile sector exhibition to explore trade and investment opportunities.

The delegation is on a four-day official visit to Pakistan on the invitation of Commerce Minister Khurram Dastgir Khan. The Sri Lankan businessmen are also expected to hold B2B meetings with their Pakistani counterparts.

The TeXpo 2016 arranged by the Trade Development Authority of Pakistan in collaboration with the Ministry of Commerce at Karachi’s Expo Center begin today, April 7 and will continue till April 10.

TeXpo 2016 is focused on value-added textile products like high-end garments, hosiery, ready-made garments and knitwear. As part of the expo, a fashion show will also be organised.

The bilateral trade between Pakistan and Sri Lanka has not shown promising growth despite the existence of the FTA since June, 2005. At present, the volume of trade between Pakistan and Sri Lanka is $350 million, which the two countries want to increase to $1 billion by expanding its scope.
