During the inauguration of Intex South Asia International Apparel Fabrics and Accessories Exhibition at Sri Lanka Exhibition and Convention Centre yesterday, it was disclosed that Sri Lanka aims to be among the top 10 high quality supplier countries in the world by 2020.
Out of Sri Lanka’s total export earnings, 40% is contributed by the garment industry of the country.
In 2014, the total sector exports value was US$ 4.98 billion.
Sri Lanka imported fabrics and accessories worth of US$ 1,300 million from different countries last year. The local value addition the segment is already over 60%.
More than hundred leading textile companies from India, China, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Thailand and Korea have come to Sri Lanka to exhibit a wide range of innovative, trendy and high performance textile products and clothing accessories.
The event was organized in association with India Cotton Textiles Export Promotion Council, Power loom Development Export Promotion Council, Taiwan Textile Federation, Korea Trade Promotion Agency, Hong Kong Apparel Society.
This exhibition would play a significant role in connecting and sourcing a wide range of apparel fabric and accessories from quality suppliers of major textile destinations in the world such as India, China, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Thailand and Korea.
