Finnish sustainable textile company Spinnova and Swedish textile recycling innovator Renewcell are teaming up to create a new way to turn textile waste into usable fiber without using harmful chemicals. This collaboration is a significant step in making the fashion and textile industries more circular and sustainable.
Renewcell is known for recycling textiles like cotton and viscose into a biodegradable pulp called Circulose. Until now, Circulose has been used to make fibers like viscose. But with Spinnova's technology, they can now turn Circulose into a new type of textile fiber without using any harmful chemicals. This is a big move towards solving the textile waste problem and making sustainable textile fiber.
Spinnova has already successfully tested spinning Circulose pulp into new textile fiber, and they've produced the first batches of Spinnova fiber using 100% Circulose for fabric and yarn development.
Both companies are looking to scale up the production of textile-to-textile fiber and aim to launch the first consumer collection using Circulose-based Spinnova fiber by the end of 2024. This partnership represents a significant shift towards a more circular and sustainable fashion industry.
