Silk Supplier Bombyx attains GOTS, GRS, & RCS certifications

BOMBYX, a division of PFGHL, has announced that it has completed the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS), The Global Recycled Standard (GRS), and The Recycled Claim Standard (RCS) certifications at its garment facility, Nanchong Ka Fung (NCKF) situated in the Northeast of China’s Sichuan Province. Bombyx is an innovative silk supplier and textile manufacturer which was founded in 2018.

These accreditations are in addition to the existing certifications received by the company such as Think Green Initiative certification, IFOAM, LEED, and Bluesign. These certifications will assist the company to continuously achieve an organic and recycled, vertical supply chain.

The GOTS, GRS, and RCS certifications demonstrate the Bombyx progression towards the successful inclusion of organic and recycled materials. This represents the completion of phase 2 of its vertical operation journey to build a fully organic, owned & operated supply chain which is planned to be achieved by 2023.

In November 2020, Bombyx also achieved CERES organic certification for its mulberry farms for replacing chemical, GMO, and synthetic inputs by incorporating regenerative farming practices with included natural and organic substitutes.

The Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) certification version 5.0 assures that the entire manufacturing process of Bombyx women’s apparel including finishing, manufacturing, trading, and washing uses eco-functionality machinery and 100% organic silk. This includes the E-Flow washing machines by Jeanologia reducing the water consumption during garment washing by up to 95%; the washing and dyeing of silk are also done using 100% recycled water and 100% renewable energy. For the facility’s operations clean energy is produced using the 3,194 panels of polycrystalline silicon solar panels.

The Global Recycled Standard (GRS) certification version 4.0 assures that women’s apparel, specifically shirts, and blouses, which are manufactured at Bombyx’s garment facility consists of 20% post-consumer recycled fibers. And, the Recycled Claim Standard (RCS) certification version 2.0 assures that the women apparel category including dresses and skirts consists of 5% pre-consumer recycled content.

The GRS and RCS certifications show Bombyx’s commitment to traceability as well as a circular economy by reducing textile waste and incorporating certified recycled materials in its high-quality garments.
