Silk Mark expo put on display one crore pure silk products

The Silk Mark Expo organized by the Silk Mark Organisation of India, under the Central Silk Board and the Union Ministry of Textiles has begun at Sree Mulam Club with the promise of authentic silk.

The expo was inaugurated by Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala on Wednesday. K.S. Menon, Silk Mark CEO; T.D. Koshi, consultant; and Babu Giridharan, senior executive; were present.

The expo has 50 stalls representing all silk producing States and centres in the country. Almost one crore Silk Mark products are available here. A major highlight is the designer sari collection.

With almost all varieties of silks, the expo is a chance for consumers to experience pure silk. Products made of all four varieties of silk – mulberry, tussar, eri and muga – can be picked up at the expo. These include tussar silk saris, suits and stoles, Gadwal, Dharmavaram, Mangalagiri, Venkatagiri, Kosa, Bandhani, Chanderi, Maheshwari, Sambalpuri, Jamdani, Kancheepuram, Banarasi, Paithani, Ikat, Kantha, Mysore, Jamvar, Bangalore, crepe and georgette silk, Arani handloom silk, and raw silk, dress materials, and lifestyle products.

The stalls at the expo is also displaying the entire process of silk production — from development of silk, functioning of weaving machinery and processing of final product — have been set up to generate more interest and awareness among the people.

The Expo, which will conclude on August 17, is at Sree Moolam Club, Vazhuthacaud.
