The world's largest producer of viscose fiber- Sateri is planning to expand its Lyocell production in China. They have planned a total annual capacity of up to 500,000 tonnes by 2025.

The first phase of this explanation has begun recently with the establishment of a new 100,000-tonne facility in Changzhou, Jiangsu province. Later this year, another facility will be built in Nantong, Jiangsu province with a capacity of 100,000 tonnes. The production of the Changzhou Lyocell facility is expected to begin in the third quarter of 2022 which will create more than 800 jobs.

The first entry of Sateri into China’s Lyocell market was in May 2020 after the production commenced in its 20,000-tonne Lyocell production line in Rizhao, Shandong province. It also consists of a 5,000-tonne Lyocell pilot production line that is dedicated to the development of Lyocell application technology.

President of Sateri, Allen Zhang said that the continued investment of Sateri in Lyocell not only acknowledges the changing needs of the market and the textile industry but also supports the green development plans of China. As per the plan of Sateri’s 2030 Vision commitment to sustainable development, through clean and closed-loop production technology and innovation, they are actively seeking to adopt a circular economy model.

Sateri’s Lyocell is a natural and biodegradable fiber that is made from wood pulp sourced from certified and sustainable plantations. The closed-loop technology is used to manufacture Lyocell which requires minimal chemical input during the production process along with using an organic solvent that is almost fully recovered and recycled.

Sateri’s Vice President and General Manager of Lyocell and Nonwovens Business, Tom Liu said in anticipation of strong demand for Lyocell in the coming years, that Customer-centricity is Sateri’s promise. The domestic and international market reach will be extended through the new expansion plans which will also provide their customers with high quality and comprehensive fiber products. To bolster the industry, they will also invest in application development, technology improvement, and brand collaboration.

There are 5 mills of Sateri in China that collectively produce about 1.5 million tonnes of viscose fiber annually. Along with fibers they also produce textile yarn, spun lace non-woven fabric, and Lyocell fiber.  The company is headquartered in Shanghai, and its sales, marketing, and customer service network covers Asia, Europe, and the Americas.
