UK-based high street retailer, River Island, is the latest company to join the Zero Discharge of Hazardous Chemicals (ZDHC) Community.
River Island, a fashion retailer with 255 locations across the UK and Ireland, has joined the ZDHC Community as a brand. In addition, the company has 10 wholesale partners in Europe, the United States, and the Middle East, as well as a large online consumer base.
River Island has a Restricted Substance List (RSL) in place to verify that none of its goods contain dangerous chemicals and are safe for customers to use.
Over the next 24 months, River Island will build on its promises to eliminate dangerous chemicals from its entire value chain, utilizing ZDHC instruments such as the ZDHC Manufacturers Restricted Substance List (MRSL).
Jose Arguedas, head of corporate responsibility and sustainability at River Island, said that because of ZDHC's unique partnership model, which connects brands and retailers with suppliers and chemical manufacturers, joining [the Roadmap to Zero Programme] was the natural next step in their sustainability journey. They're excited to learn from other members and contribute as much as they can to help reduce their industry's chemical footprint.
