RCGD to collab again with Tencel on eco-couture for Oscars

At the 93rd Academy Awards, Red Carpet Green Dress (RCGD) and Lenzing’s Tencel brand have renewed their partnership for a second year. As part of their partnership, RCGD and Tencel released a line of eco-couture fabrics made from Tencel fibers, which are currently being turned into bespoke looks for a variety of Oscar nominees and red carpet guests.

The looks themselves, as well as the talent wearing the styles, will be revealed on the night of the Oscars on Sunday, April 25, according to Lenzing’s press release, paying homage to RCGD’s origins as a fashion competition.

The Oscars will be broadcast live from various locations in the United States and Europe for the first time. Red Carpet Green Dress is working to honor their dedication to providing fashion ideas that perform from moment to movement on the red carpet of the largest of all global stages in what has been an unusual year for many.

Last year at the Oscars, RCGD x Tencel collaborated with Louis Vuitton to create a sustainable custom gown for James Bond Spectre star Léa Seydoux to wear as a spokesperson for RCGD at the 92nd Academy Awards. Meanwhile, filmmaker Elena Andreicheva won an Oscar while wearing a gown made of RCGD x Tencel Luxe fabrics in collaboration with couture designer Laura Basci.

In addition, a stunning design created by leading ethical luxury designer Benedetti Life, that featured an RCGD x Tencel Luxe eco-couture textile, was revealed at the Red Carpet Green Dress Pre-Oscar Gala last year.

Tencel branded lyocell fibers, modal fibers, and filament yarn of 100% botanic origin will be used in this year’s projects. The fibers and filament yarn are made from recycled wood products and processed in environmentally friendly ways. Fabrics made of Tencel Modal and Lyocell fibers are also gentle on the skin, offering smooth, long-lasting softness, breathability, color vibrancy, and color retention features.

Tencel Luxe filament yarn gives fabrics an exquisite sensual appeal with its silky smoothness, liquid-like drape, and color vibrancy, making it suitable for eco couture and luxury wear. Under agricultural, household, soil, freshwater, and marine environments, all Tencel fibers are certified biodegradable and compostable.

Red Carpet Green Dress was created in response to a lack of ethical options on the red carpet, with the goal of drawing attention to the value of more sustainable approaches in fashion and being a part of taking those ideas to the global market. Suzy Amis Cameron, a pioneering environmental advocate, founded the organization, which has been dedicated to social change for over a decade. Tencel has a shared mission and aspires to be a leader in the pursuit of eco-friendly apparel, garment, and fashion solutions, combining high fashion with innovation while ensuring consistency. It seems like a logical next step to collaborate and launch a line of eco-couture textiles.

CEO of Red Carpet Green Dress,  Samata said that one of the most thrilling and lucrative partnerships with Red Carpet Green Dress is with Tencel. From open environmental design solutions with an emphasis on circularity and decarbonization to the intrinsic awareness of the need for balanced production and use, the organization embodies some of the core foundations of sustainability. Their Oscars partnership is always a highlight, and they’re thrilled that new technologies like this are available to the global design world.

The global vice president of marketing and branding at Lenzing Group, Harold Weghorst said that they’re excited to collaborate with Red Carpet Green Dress once again to put sustainable couture to the forefront. With the addition of Tencel packaged Modal and Lyocell fibers and Tencel Luxe filament yarn to their partnership this year, they’re giving designers and labels a bigger canvas to work with in terms of fabric look, touch, and feel.

Weghorst added that though their fibres and filament yarn are made from wood harvested from approved and regulated sources and are among the most environmentally friendly fabrics in the fashion industry, they’re not done yet. Tencel is on a path to True Carbon Zero, with a goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2050 and helping to create a carbon-neutral apparel sector. They hope that their partnership will inspire more designers and brands to seek out fabrics that not only push the boundaries of visual appeal but also have a positive impact on the environment.
