PVH Corp., the owner of brands including Calvin Klein and Tommy Hilfiger, has joined a consortium for circular fashion that was established by the biotech business Carbios along with On, Patagonia, Puma, and Salomon.

By working together to test and improve biological recycling technologies on the companies' own products, the group's goal is to accelerate the transition to a circular economy within the textile industry.

The ultimate goal is to assist the consortium members' sustainability goals by providing fiber-to-fibre closed circularity at an industrial scale through Carbios' bio-recycling technology.

The team will seek to deliver biological recycling of polyester products over a two-year timeframe, including textile waste sorting and dismantling technologies.

The partnership was established in response to the shortage of textile waste recycling technologies.

Members of the organization will provide the process with clothing, underwear, shoes, and athletics as feedstock with the goal of ultimately producing new items.

Emmanuel Ladent, CEO of Carbios, said that the company believes they can accomplish more together. In order to enhance their special technology and eventually transition to a more sustainable industry that benefits both people and the environment, they join forces with their consortiums.

An effort that was co-funded by the EU in advance of the governmental organization's future legislation regarding the sorting of textile waste will see operation in 2023 at Carbios' demonstration facility.
