Orlando-based PureCycle Technologies has announced the sale of nearly 500,000 pounds of its PureFive recycled polypropylene (PP) resin to Drake Extrusion. This material will be used to produce continuous filament yarns, suitable for manufacturing rugs, upholstery, and apparel.

Drake Extrusion, headquartered in Ridgeway, Virginia, is North America’s leading producer of colored filament yarns and staple fiber. The partnership follows Drake’s successful trials of producing continuous fibers using a compound made with PureFive resin, which is derived from 100% post-consumer recycled (PCR) feedstock.

“We’ve been searching for a reliable partner to provide post-consumer recycled PP that can be transformed into sustainable fibers for our clients,” said John Parkinson, CEO of Drake. “PureCycle’s material exceeded our expectations during testing under various operating conditions. These fibers are now being presented to our customers, and we anticipate significant growth opportunities.”

Through multiple trials, PureCycle and Drake developed fibers of varying thicknesses for diverse applications. Thicker fibers are ideal for outdoor upholstery, while thinner fibers are targeted for the apparel sector. The fibers were also successfully textured, enhancing their softness for use in clothing.
