Puma launches eco-friendly Re: Suede 2.0 sneaker

YarnsandFibers News Bureau 2024-04-26 16:22:59 – Germany

German sportswear company Puma is getting ready to release its new Re: Suede 2.0 sneaker after a successful trial study. The study showed that the footwear could be composted in specific industrial settings. Puma made improvements to their trainers based on feedback from volunteers who participated in a trial back in 2022. They created 500 unique pairs of the Suede trainers using carefully chosen biodegradable materials, like zeology-tanned suede.

Volunteers wore these trainers for six months and then returned them to Puma for composting at an industrial facility. Customers can also return their Re: Suede 2.0 trainers for a refund once they're worn out. Puma is working with partners to speed up the composting process and ensure responsible disposal.

Anne-Laure Descours, Puma’s chief sourcing officer, emphasized the importance of finding sustainable solutions for footwear. Puma's Circular Lab, which includes projects like Re: Suede and Re: Fibre, aims to shape the company's approach to sustainability. The innovation hub is led by professionals in innovation and design.
