Origin Products, Inc., a leader in carbon-negative materials, and PrimaLoft, a developer of high-performance insulations and fabrics, have announced a new collaboration to produce carbon-negative, insulating, high-performance fibers. The fibers can be used in a wide range of applications, including insulating fiber for leading outdoor, luxury, and lifestyle brands, as well as home goods applications like hypoallergenic insulated bedding.
The firms will collaborate to produce and commercialize new technologies based on Origin Materials’ platform as quickly as possible. The partnership will take advantage of PrimaLoft’s leading status as a niche maker of insulating fibers and filaments, with over 900 global brand partners, including legendary brands including Patagonia, L.L. Bean, Lululemon, Stone Island, Adidas, and Nike, and a vast global network of producers that use a variety of textile processes to create their products, including extrusion, carding, spinning, finishing, weaving, knitting, dyeing, air-laid, meltblown, and other technologies.
PrimaLoft is well-positioned to collaborate with Origin Materials to supply the garment industry with innovative carbon-negative fiber solutions, thanks to its market building unit, PR team, national distribution department, and brand suppliers, as well as its working partnerships with the six biggest global quality fiber producers. The partnership will work on producing carbon-negative PET fibers as well as next-generation polymers using the Origin Materials technology platform.
PrimaLoft’s ‘Relentlessly Responsible’ mission, which aims to improve both efficiency and sustainability through creativity, is reflected in this partnership. PrimaLoft Bio, which was created and introduced into the market in late 2018 in an attempt to combat microplastics in the ocean; PrimaLoft P.U.R.E, which offers products imported with a CO2 savings of more than 50%; and PrimaLoft’s post-consumer recycling program are all part of the network. Non-petroleum-based raw materials, such as biodegradable components and other circular economy options, are the company’s next frontier.
Origin Materials claims that its technology program, which converts low-cost, sustainable wood residues into carbon-negative materials, will revolutionize the manufacturing of a wide variety of end goods, including clothes, textiles, plastics, packaging, automotive parts, tires, carpeting, toys, and more, with a $1 trillion addressable market.
Furthermore, Origin Materials’ technology network is intended to have price stability that is effectively decoupled from the fuel supply chain, which is more volatile than wood-based supply chains.
Co-CEO of Origin Materials, Rich Riley said that PrimaLoft, a pioneer in sustainability and innovative, engineered insulating materials for clothing, outdoor wear, and home goods, is a great fit for them. They have a shared vision about how materials will help the planet achieve net-zero carbon emissions as quickly as possible. He added that together, they will provide creative innovations that will add immense value to PrimaLoft’s consumers while still lowering carbon emissions in the clothing, outdoor, and home products industries.
The president and CEO of PrimaLoft, Mike Joyce said that their collaboration with Origin Materials, a leader in carbon-negative materials, is a big move forward in their Relentlessly Responsible mission. Their ultimate aim is to create goods that work at the highest level while having the least negative effect on the environment.
He adds that working with Origin Materials to meet such high-performance levels without the use of petroleum is a big step forward. They’re looking forward to collaborating on emerging technology with a number of sectors.
