Price of long staple cotton expected to remain firm in July-August

YarnsandFibers News Bureau 2016-03-09 16:00:00 – Tamil Nadu

Tamil Nadu Agricultural University has advised cotton growers to take sowing decisions based on their advisory as prices of long staple summer cotton on harvest are expected to be around Rs. 5,500-5,800 per quintal in July-August.

The major cotton growing districts of Tamil Nadu are Dharmapuri, Tiruvannamalai, Vellore, Perambalur, Tiruchirapallii and Salem.

To advice farmers growing cotton in these districts, on cotton price during harvest period, TNAU’s Agro Marketing Intelligence and Business Promotion Centre analysed monthly prices in Konganapuram for the last nine years, which suggested that prices would remain stable and hover around Rs. 5,500-5,800 per quintal.

The price of good quality long staple cotton in Konganapuram in the regulated Tamil Nadu market now rules at around Rs. 6,000 per quintal.

Though the production and arrivals are lower than last year, the fibre has not realised the expected price for being moist and also because of ban on export.
