President Biden is all set to form a “Ministry of Fashion”

As it was being addressed by President Biden that the fashion industry also needs plans to regulate its global carbon emissions like other automobile and energy industries and is also responsible for violating human rights by relying on slave labor,  so he mentions a need to appoint a Fashion Minister, a CZAR.

The fashion industry is a widespread sector, worth $2.5 trillion but as promising its size is not its securities are. Its major employees are poorly paid women who are also vulnerable to abuse at their workplace. To tackle these terrible scenarios no country has so far taken any initiative or any ownership to uplift the condition for the planet and workers. President Biden is highly motivated to take action against the climate fight and wants to pave a path for other nations to follow up. In the fashion industry, many nations are failing to regulate their laws.

Brune Poirson,  French State Secretary within the Ministry of Ecological and Inclusive Transition, is determined to focus on the fashion industry’s footprint. Even though it’s not her official job, she has still managed to come up with policies for banning brands from destroying unsold products and making microplastic filters mandatory in industrial washing machines. In Hong Kong as well, the government has funded a research institute for experimenting on sustainable solutions and building an impressive fabric recycling machine.

The fashion czar will be responsible for environmental and human rights violations in the fashion industry. He would also advocate for Congress to pass laws that would hold brands accountable for the labor violations across their supply chains. America could be transformed into a global hub of sustainable and humane fashion which would promise a circular economy.

In the 1990s, when free trade agreements made it cheaper to manufacture overseas, it was far easier for companies to distance themselves from the exploitation of workers. These days, more than 95% of clothes sold in the country are made by female workers in developing nations, many of whom are subjected to sexual harassment and terrible working conditions. Fashion’s complex structure is the key reason that it has an impactful carbon footprint. The fashion czar will carry forward the discussions with Congress and federal agencies, especially the Environmental Protection Agency and the Department of Labour, about the regulation of labor laws and the need for innovative solutions to be brought for the industry. The fashion czar would also address human rights abuses in American garment factories, where workers are currently getting sick with Covid-19, even as they manufacture PPE for the rest of. The US’s new fashion minister would lead the way for sustainable solutions and will challenge the threats that this industry poses to our planet and human life and will make the US a leader in the global movement.
