Pochampally handlloom Park is out with Ikat art at the mela

Pochampally Handloom Park Ltd is an integrated textile park that houses designing, dyeing and weaving facility for textiles under a single roof. It holds mela every month to ensure that their products reach out to the public directly. This time, Ikat art is on display at the mela which opened on Tuesday. Apart from the modern collection of sarees, handmade woven, traditional weaves like Telia rumal, Pan Patola and Nari kunj are the highlights of the mela.

Telia rumal (literally ‘oily handkerchief’), in this kind of sari, the yarn is dipped into oily solution before weaving to give it a shiny finish. These sarees cost around Rs.5,000.

The colourful and vibrant Pan Patola and Nari Kunj sarees are made using Patola silk. Hand woven, the Patola cloth’s design has large variety of geometrically designs. While, the silk and cotton sarees are handmade by weavers.

The products completely designed and weaved by artisans at their factory at Nalgonda district, Pochampally Handloom Park are well known in India and as well as in the export market.

Earlier Pochampally Handloom Park Ltd, designs were old fashioned and outdated. But as time change, they engaged designers and started manufacturing products in line with the changing trend; this was their initiative to revive handloom products.

A wide range of products are available for sale including all kinds of home linen, dress materials, sarees and bags at the mela will be on till April 21 at YMCA Narayanguda.
