In a significant advancement for the textile printing sector, speciality chemical supplier CHT Group has produced print pastes and pigments that have been certified to the Cradle to Cradle (C2C) Gold Standard by consulting institute EPEA GmbH.

The breakthrough is a result of CHT having joined forces with multi-channel retailer Lidl to develop ‘innovative recyclable textile print products’ as part of a circular economy pilot project.

CHT Group claims it can now offer high quality substitutes for common textile print pastes with its first biodegradable options. The new CHT product range offers brands and retailers the prospect of printed textiles that have achieved Cradle to Cradle Certified Gold Standard.

Cradle to Cradle stipulates that products must merge into a biological or technical cycle after the end of their life cycle if they are to be eligible for certification.

Products that achieve C2C certification must comply to strict criteria in relation to all ingredients used in its production, with C2C experts also ensuring a gapless control of the manufacturing processes.

The CHT products selected for certification are: Printperfekt CC pastes for screen printing, Tubiscreen CC and Tubiprint CC pastes for continuous printing, Tubivis DRL 170 thickener and the firm’s Bezaprint CC pigments.

Following the CHT announcement, the Group’s Vice President for textiles, Ralf Kattanek, stated: “We are very proud that together with Lidl and its suppliers we can make our contribution to an increasingly important circular economy.
