Piana Technology wins award for its E/SMART™ Fiber technology

Piana Technology, a 439-year-old textile firm known for innovation in the fiber and nonwoven textiles industries, was selected as a CES® 2022 Innovation Awards Honoree. The E/SMART™ Innovation Award recognizes the extraordinary design and engineering of E/SMART™, a high-performance nonwoven fiber technology that outperforms polyurethane foam while minimizing its negative effects. Piana will demonstrate this technology through a virtual activation experience at the 2022 Consumer Electronics Show, which will be the company’s first year in attendance.

E/SMART™ is a unique combination of digital wellness and product longevity. Vertically-lapped recyclable and nontoxic fibers provide even pressure point distribution, exceptional airflow, and antiviral properties that excel traditional materials. It has higher compressional and heat resistance for a wide range of applications, despite its lighter weight. Through customization of the goods, flexible integrated pressure sensors within E/SMART™ can enable optimal posture and sleep quality. This technology is being developed to be used as a diagnostic tool in hospitals. It can adapt to a wide range of consumer expectations for a user-friendly experience when combined with digitally printed molecules. It may be 100% recycled and moulded at the end of its life for limitless custom options.

By replacing the 1.3 million metric tonnes of PU foam that is landfilled each year with E/SMART™, over 4 million metric tonnes of CO2 would be saved each year, resulting in improved quality of life, health, productivity, and a delayed environmental deterioration. E/SMART™, according to CEO Andrea Piana, is a chance to revolutionize the way we think about sustainability.

Andrea Piana, said that materials from the past are still used in the present world. They must invent new technologies that adapt alongside them if they wish to maximize their human potential. With E/SMART™, they’ve created a technology platform for the circular economy made of renewable materials that can be improved as technology advances—without causing waste—and used in countless applications. They may be able to eliminate foam along the road.

Piana Technology was founded in Biella, Italy, in 1582. Andrea Piana took over as CEO in 1995, ushering in a new era for the company, which included the building of their first U.S. factory in Cartersville, Georgia, as well as the development of SaveDrop Technology and expansion into nonwovens. Piana’s cutting-edge technologies are now used by Fortune 500 firms in B2B settings to power sleep, furniture, transit, leisure, medical, and in-flight products.

As Piana Technology prepares to introduce direct-to-consumer products, E/SMART™’s have been recognized as a CES 2022 Innovation Award Honoree. The moldability, recyclability, and adaptability of E/SMART™, combined with smart molecular technology, will bring us closer to a user-driven circular economy. Piana Technology will take us into the future as the market searches for zero waste alternatives to old behaviors.
