Nation LTD, the Los Angles-based contemporary women’s wear label, is sharing information by sharing the provenance of its products. The brand reviles that its partnership with Peruvian factories has helped it deliver transparency to great levels.
The brand is fighting greenwashing by providing proof of its authenticity. Edward Hertzman noted that Peru’s vertically integrated production makes the origins of garments more traceable down to the raw materials. Nation’s partners in Peru have asked brands to visit and see the factories in person, enabling the brand to in turn share photos and firsthand details with consumers.
Krafka stated that manufacturing in Peru was an excellent source for them and that it was very responsible as it engaged with their employees and the impact on the environment. He stated that for them it is a great partnership and they are growing their business as a result of it.
Peru has been aiming to be the most sustainable apparel production country in the world by 2025. It has aimed the five pillars that focus on environmental responsibilities such as energy, water use, fair trade, labour laws, etc. Cordova stated that they believe all companies that form the association in the triple bottom line in their business model which is the planet, people and profits.
As far as Peru is concerned, sustainability goes hand-in-hand with quality. The Peru textile brand in a joint effort with the government is being repositioned to stand for quality with sustainability.
The production in Peru comes with an added advantage of craftsmanship. It is among the textile sectors that dates back thousands of years and has kept the traditions of natural fibres and handwork alive. The Nation’s factory partners utilise piece dyeing rather than garment dyeing. Krafka stated that their garments were better, wear better and have longevity.
As the Peru based manufacturers are situated in the same hemisphere as North America they enjoy the added advantage of rapid communication and speed. , Krafka noted that he is in constant contact with the team, and the relationship has only grown stronger in recent months.
