Pertex partners with Cycora® to develop high-performance circular fabric

Pertex, a manufacturer of performance fabrics, will work with Cycora®, a ground-breaking material created from recycled end-of-life textiles, to create high-performance woven fabrics from textile waste that would otherwise wind up in landfills. By working together, we could immediately address the growing issue of textile waste, which results in the end-of-life disposal of more than 70% of apparel in landfills or incinerators.

The first solution created by Ambercycle Inc., a materials science business with headquarters in Los Angeles, is called Cycora. Its goal is to eliminate waste in the fashion industry. Reduced resource extraction from the globe is made possible by the AmbercycleTM ecosystem, which enables the consolidation, regeneration, and reintegration of end-of-life textiles back into supply chains. This movement is driven by ambercycle technology, which reproduces textiles at the molecular level with quality comparable to what is now derived from petroleum.

Pertex is a market leader in lightweight woven fabrics for technical performance garments with a more than 40-year history and a comprehensive understanding of fabric creation. The most well-known outdoor and sportswear companies in the world are among Pertex’s brand partners.

Pertex and cycora will collaborate to develop high-performance woven fabrics using this product development experience. In order to minimize the impact upon being converted back into cycora to begin the cycle again, these textiles will be specifically created to be compatible with Ambercycle end-of-life solutions.

Steve Laycock, brand director for Pertex, said that they are continually looking for new ways to lessen their environmental effect. This collaboration with Ambercycle presents fresh possibilities for achieving these objectives. For instance, all of the fabrics in their Pertex Revolve line are mono-materials manufactured from recycled polyester. Currently created from PET bottles, this polyester will soon be replaced with a fabric that is really circular, thanks to cooperation with Ambercycle.

Shay Sethi, Ambercycle CEO, said that they wanted to use cycora materials in complex, technical products while setting a precedent for deliberate design, on the drive to develop a fully circular infrastructure in the fashion sector. Their collaboration with Pertex enables circular materials to thrive in the most demanding conditions, including climbing, trekking, backpacking, and a variety of other activities. The pursuit of material harmony is accelerated by the inherent alignment of pertex and cycora.

In order to meet the strict requirements of outdoor and athletic manufacturers and advance towards truly sustainable methods, Pertex and Cycora will collaborate closely. In the upcoming months, further information about the collaboration will be made public.
