Patagonia, a global leader in outdoor apparel, has taken a significant step in its environmental efforts by joining Pack4Good, a sustainable packaging initiative spearheaded by Canopy, a non-profit dedicated to protecting forests, species, and climate.

Building on its long-standing partnership with Canopy, which began in 2013 to prevent the destruction of Ancient and Endangered Forests for viscose textiles, Patagonia is now focusing on Next Generation (Next Gen) packaging solutions. These solutions prioritize sourcing from sustainable alternatives, such as agricultural waste, instead of trees. The company aims to ensure that none of its packaging harms the world’s most vital forests.

Paper packaging—such as delivery boxes, hang tags, and shoe boxes—contributes to logging 3.1 billion trees annually, many from climate-critical forests. Canopy and Patagonia are focusing on developing alternative fibres that don’t rely on deforestation to meet packaging demands.
