Pakistan Readymade Garments Manufacturers & Exporters Association (PRGMEA) in association with EVECON under the aegis of the Ministry of Commerce & Textiles of Pakistan and the All India Association of Industries has organized for the first time Pakistani exhibition, ‘Made in Pakistan Expo 2014’ to promote Pakistani garments and clothing in India.

A hundred Pakistani textile companies, including top brands such as Khaadi, Ittehad, Gul Ahmed and Alkaram and Lala Textile, are part of the exhibition displaying their products at an exhibition in Mumbai. The exhibition was inaugurated by Abdul Basit Khan, new Pakistani High Commissioner in India and Kamal Morarka, Chairman, World Trade Centre, Mumbai on Friday which attracted large crowds, especially women.

Speaking at the inauguration the Pakistani High Commissioner said that the problems between India and Pakistan are dragging on. The bilateral trade can enhance mutual understanding and help the two sides to resolve their disputes and build a strong edifice of peace and stability. He hopes that this show will become a permanent feature.

Leading Pakistani brands in textile fabric, fashion garments, lawn print suits (stitched and unstitched), designer footwear, onyx and herbal teas are on offer at the exhibtion. Also Pakistani food court is put up offering an opportunity to food lovers and families to taste Pakistani cuisine.

Pakistani lawn suits attracted attention of Mumbaikar at the exhibition, as they are different and stand out as a special wear in a social or family gathering.

According to Danish Adamjee, Chief Operating Officer, Khaadi, which has 40 stores in Pakistan and abroad, they are keen on setting up stores in Mumbai and Delhi and as retailers would like to do direct business.

According to Rukhsana Shah, Secretary, Ministry of Textiles, Pakistan, they want to develop direct trade relations with India which will benefit both the countries.

The Pakistan expo is on till Monday. It is a good opportunity for Mumbaikar to know more about Pakistani garment and clothing industry.
