Olam Agri, a prominent agribusiness specializing in food, feed, and fibre, has unveiled its regenerative agriculture initiative across the cotton belt in the U.S. This program is geared towards meeting the escalating demand for traceable and sustainably cultivated cotton.
Initiated in 2020, Olam Agri’s regenerative agriculture journey in cotton aims to equip cotton farmers with the necessary tools and resources to mitigate climate risks, enhance soil fertility, sequester carbon, promote biodiversity, and manage water and energy consumption. The program guarantees customers cotton products with complete chain of custody certification, covering every stage from production and harvesting to ginning and storage, with all farms and ginning facilities being regenagri® certified.
To further support farmers transitioning towards sustainable practices, Olam Agri plans to directly incentivize those who adopt regenerative techniques as part of the program. This incentivization approach is anticipated to drive increased participation among farmers and foster sustainable farming practices on a larger scale.
Franco Costantini, CEO of Regenagri, expressed his appreciation for Olam Agri’s dedication to scaling up regenerative agriculture implementation globally, emphasizing regenagri®’s mission to ensure the health of the land and its inhabitants.
Olam Agri’s regenerative agriculture program has also been initiated in Côte d’Ivoire, with plans to achieve certification for its Australia and Brazil cotton farms this year. With cotton directly supporting the livelihoods of 350 million people worldwide, including 100 million farmers, Olam Agri remains committed to sustainable and ethical cotton production practices.
