OceanSafe partners with ITA for sustainable textile innovation

YarnsandFibers News Bureau 2024-09-30 15:30:33 – Switzerland

OceanSafe has teamed up with the Institute of Textile Technology (ITA) at RWTH Aachen University to advance the development of sustainable textile materials. The collaboration aims to turn OceanSafe’s proprietary polymers into high-performance fibres and yarns, which can be seamlessly integrated into existing textile value chains.

ITA will experiment, test, and refine these materials to ensure they meet the demands of industrial-scale production. The institute will focus on perfecting critical processes, including knitting, weaving, dyeing, and finishing, ensuring OceanSafe’s fibres maintain optimal performance at every stage.

The naNea materials, synthetic polymers developed by OceanSafe, combine the processing benefits of polyester with the added advantages of being circular, biodegradable, and toxin-free. These fibres are poised to be a game-changer in sustainable textiles.

Notably, OceanSafe’s naNea materials are the first and only synthetic textile materials to achieve Cradle to Cradle (C2C) Certified Gold standard for the biological cycle. This certification applies to the entire product supply chain, marking a significant milestone in sustainable textile innovation.
