Notts Sport, a company from the UK known for its work in play and sports surfaces, has launched CocoTurf – the world’s first artificial turf made completely from natural coconut fibers, without using any plastic.
This turf is made using tough fibres from coconut husks and has a backing made of approved natural rubber latex. This ensures the product contains no plastic and is free from harmful chemicals. In production, one coconut provides around 200 grams of usable fibre. The husks from 600 coconuts are enough to cover a 60-square-metre area, such as a children’s play zone.
“Our aim to discover better and greener surfacing options led us to create the world’s first non-plastic artificial grass,” said Duncan Bennett, CEO of Notts Sport. “For the first time, communities can use an artificial surface without causing harm through plastic use. This marks a new direction for playground surfaces, and we are proud to be at the forefront.”
