US-based biotechnology company Noble Biomaterials, announced its latest antimicrobial technology has received official EPA registration. Ionic+ Botanical is a bio-based citric acid compound developed by Noble Biomaterials to inhibit the growth of microbes and reduce odour on fabric and other soft surfaces.
Citric acid is one of the most often used components in food, beverage, medicinal, and cleaning goods, claims the business. In addition to addressing the demand for plant-based solutions, Noble Biomaterials now plans to introduce the ingredient into the textile industry.
The business started working on the technology in 2021 and then applied it to register biopesticides (EPA). This enables Noble’s licensed partners to make antimicrobial claims for numerous performance fabric applications, including odor control and surface protection.
According to Noble Biomaterials, it is addressing the demand for antimicrobial fabrics in activewear as well as the market’s transition to more sustainable fabric solutions that can withstand greater wear and tear with less maintenance. Athleisure, sports, and travel gear, as well as fabrics for towels and home bedding, all use Ionic+ products.
Joel Furey, founder and chief commercial officer at Noble Biomaterials, said that citric Acid is used for so many things in their daily lives. They were aware of the widespread usage of citric as an antibacterial and disinfectant during the pandemic. They looked into its use in fabric applications as a result of this. They were able to build a revolutionary strategy that was both an efficient and long-lasting solution for the antimicrobial protection of textiles and other materials after extensive research and development.
With Noble’s current Ionic+ Mineral product line, which is based on the advantages of permanent silver technology for bacterial control on fabric, the new Ionic+ Botanical product line will be available. In 2024, Ionic+ Botanical items will be widely accessible.
