NILIT, the world’s largest producer of high-quality Nylon 6.6 for apparel and owner of the SENSIL® sustainable brand, has released a progress report on the objectives described in the organization's first sustainability report, "Making Nylon Sustainable," which was released one year ago.
This 2021 update lists accomplishments in the three strategic areas of manufacturing excellence, product excellence, and social excellence—all key facets of NILIT's all-encompassing Planet Promise sustainability plan.
Ilan Melamed, NILIT General Manager, said that their first sustainability report was extremely comprehensive, encompassing a whole spectrum of activities to minimize their own environmental impact and supply the excellent Nylon 6.6 materials that allow a more sustainable textile and clothing business. They have accomplished many of their objectives well ahead of schedule because of their strong sense of urgency to reduce the environmental effect of their sector, a vision that is shared by their partner mills, brands, and retailers.
In comparison to the 2017 baseline, NILIT's manufacturing effect has significantly decreased thanks to considerable investments made at its global locations. The biggest polymerization, spinning, and texturing factory operated by NILIT reported: 24% electricity savings, 26% decrease in heating energy, 32% cut in cooling, and 23% reduction in steam usage.
Under its SENSIL® consumer brand, NILIT also concentrated on strategic product development and launched a number of fresh, cutting-edge, premium Nylon 6.6 products: SENSIL® ByNature, SENSIL® BioCare, and SENSIL® WaterCare.
Additionally, all SENSIL® premium Nylon 6.6 products are created to offer the durability, performance, quality, and aesthetics that environmentally aware consumers need in their sustainable clothing. Together, these cutting-edge approaches make up the biggest array of premium, sustainable Nylon 6.6 yarns for clothing on the market.
An evaluation of NILIT's performance in relation to the UN's Sustainable Development Goals, management measures to maintain a healthy, productive, and diverse staff, and community programs that set NILIT facilities apart as good corporate citizens are also included in the report.
