Outdoor Research, Mammut, and Blackyak received ISPO awards at the recent sports and outdoor tradeshow in Munich (December 3-5), showcasing garments featuring Nikwax PFAS-free technologies. For decades, Nikwax has provided PFAS-free and durable aftercare solutions, now complemented by factory-applied options to extend the life of outdoor gear.
Outdoor Research’s Foray and Aspire 3L jackets, the industry’s first carbon-neutral technical outdoor apparel, use recycled materials treated with Nikwax Direct.Dry, a durable water repellent (DWR) coating. “Nikwax Direct.Dry offers a high-performing and eco-conscious alternative to conventional DWR treatments,” said Alex Lauver, senior director of materials innovations and sustainability at Outdoor Research.
Nikwax Direct.Dry has achieved top scores on the AATCC22 Spray Rating Test, maintaining exceptional durability through washes. It retains a 100 rating after five washes and an 80 rating after 20, which can return to 100 when paired with Nikwax technical cleaners and waterproofers.
Mammut’s Eiger Nordwand Pro Down hooded parka and Blackyak’s Watusi hooded expedition down jacket and Watusi G2 expedition suit were also honored with ISPO awards. These garments utilize Nikwax Hydrophobic Down (NHD), a PFAS-free waterproof down fill.
“We’ve spent over four decades perfecting PFAS-free waterproofing solutions,” said Brian Davidson, CEO of Nikwax. “We are proud to apply this expertise to industrial solutions, helping partners move away from PFAS in their manufacturing processes.”
