YarnsandFibers News Bureau 2024-08-29 17:06:33 – United Kingdom

British retailer New Look has announced a new partnership with the International Transport Workers’ Federation (ITF) aimed at protecting the human and labor rights of transport workers within its supply chain. This collaboration is formalized through a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the two organizations.

As part of the MoU, New Look has committed to conducting human rights due diligence within its transport supply chain in consultation with the ITF. The partnership will focus on improving the safety, resilience, and sustainability of transport supply chains, along with ensuring the protection of the workers who keep them operational.

Sue Fairley, New Look’s senior head of ESG, quality, and sourcing, emphasized the significance of the partnership, stating, “Formalizing our relationship with ITF offers New Look an informed, practical partnership to help us remain vigilant and diligent in our commitment to uphold human rights, be aware of vulnerable workers, and ensure there is no modern slavery or human trafficking in any part of our operations, including transport and logistics.”

In addition to these commitments, New Look has pledged to promote freedom of association for its transport workers and engage in collective bargaining with the ITF and relevant trade unions. The retailer has also agreed to respect all internationally recognized human rights standards across its transport and logistics operations, further solidifying its dedication to ethical practices within its supply chain.
